I know I’ve already extolled the virtues of Meg’s solo and debut LP on this top ten vehicle before, but live the simple point was driven home quite nicely once again. Pure beauty.
Again Boris strikes with the limited edition bait, but this one is a doozy…great Black Flag nod via the graphic layout as well, another great job by Boris drummer Atsuo. The DVD is not a view once, file away, either.
This song popped up on a recent bike ride I did, and it’s a great reinvention of this 70’s paean to lost love and unrequited dreams.
After seeing the outdoor hard rock spectacle of Deep Purple and Blue Oyster Cult (review to follow soon), I drove over the Charles River to a small club on the fervent advice of a friend to catch these Aussie rockers. Not many people, but they didn’t care, and rocked like they were playing at the same venue I just left. Fun stuff.
Everyone’s favorite agent provocateur Genesis P-Orridge gets together another revision of the original acid house troupe, and brings Gibby (Butthole Surfers) into the fun as well. Great live show too, including an excellent Syd Barrett cover.
Heavenly Pop Hits: The Flying Nun Story on youtube
A friend of mine tipped me off to this absolutely essential documentary, which is available via youtube in nine installments. I must confess to being a massive Flying Nun fan, and this was satisfying in so many ways, but even a casual fan should find interest in it. Great live footage of The Chills, The Clean, The Verlaines, The Dead C (amazing!) and so many others. Essential.

Don’t be afraid of the ‘70s…join me in the facial hair revolution.
The best single frame comic of the past few years…brilliant mix of satire and surrealism.
The best Banshees record…cannot top the 1-2-3 punch of the opening songs “Spellbound”, “Into The Light” and “Arabian Knights”.
Classic cut of NYC sleaze, grime, and sex…a period piece, but one which still merits attention today. Sly and Robbie are never a bad addition to a musical stew.

In your long black limousine,
Pull up to my bumper baby,
And drive it in between. ”
