Musician Nick May started his alternative rock project Morning Eagle in 2018 while working in Philadelphia as a producer for other bands (Breaklite, UgLi, The Valets). After relocating to Long Beach, California in 2019, May spent the time in lockdown honing his Morning Eagle demos.
On January 1st 2021 he self released Slide EP, which later arrived as a limited edition cassette via Michigan-based Setterwind Records.
This set the stage for the follow-up album entitled Fantasy Parade, which arrives on September 24th through Setterwind.
Fantasy Parade was written and recorded immediately after Slide was released, but encompasses more of May’s vision of what the music should be and how it should be curated. May combines psychedelic punk with grunge and shoegaze, and on his new album he aims to please fans still yearning for the vibes of the ’90s alternative scene.
Big Takeover is pleased to host the premiere of the second single from the EP, “Blackberry Blue.” New music was first hinted at with the release of lead single “Evergreen” this past May.
“Blackberry Blue” is a blast from the alt-‘90s past, featuring grimy-textured, continually diving and driving guitar lines, low-end bass rumble, bashed out drum beats, and scintillating cymbals strikes.
May’s hazily tuneful vocals wander through the propulsive landscape like a slightly dazed nomad encountering a sudden whipped-up sandstorm.
The track is a heartening flashback to the alt-rock/grunge pinnacle of the 1990s and is a cool harbinger of what’s to come on the full Fantasy Parade LP.
Fantasy Parade will be streaming everywhere on September 24th. It will be released on CD and a limited number of cassettes via Setterwind Records.
Morning Eagle plans to do shows around California and the East coast in 2022.
