Since self-releasing its third full-length album, Bright Smiles & Broken Hearts, in November 2019 on Bandcamp, shoegaze/dream pop outfit Whimsical have not been sitting around idle.

The duo comprising Neil Burkdoll (music/production) and Krissy Vanderwoude (lyrics/vocals) have been busy writing nine original songs set to appear on a new album slated for release in early 2022.

After being signed by Portland, OR-based Shelflife Records in February of this year, the band decided to release a 7” record and digital download of two new songs. The first, “Gravity,” premiered on May 5th via “The Week In Pop“https://tinyurl.com/Whimsical-Week-In-Pop-Debut. The flip side “Float” is an exclusive that will be available only as part of this release.

“Gravity” is a sweeping dreampop/rock track that will have listeners reaching pinnacles of elation over and over again as the buoyant, yet stormy guitar swirls defy the laws of… well, gravity! The track is driven by kinetic drumming, scintillating cymbals crash, a propulsive bass line, and elevated by Vanderwoude’s sweetly musing and airily floating vocals.

“Float” is another restlessly spirited number that pushes with jagged rock guitar riffs, a fleetly shifting bass line, emphatically and lively drum pummel, and Vanderwoude’s gently diffused, but aerially climbing tone as she sings with conviction, “This is our beginning / A brand new start / A story with a happy ending / You are my heart.”

The limited edition 7” officially releases on June 4th and can be purchased on Bandcamp.

“Gravity” will also be included on Whimsical’s upcoming full length album via Shelflife Records, as well as“Take All Of Me,” which originally released this past October.

Whimsical have been busy this year, releasing a cover of the well-loved song “Sweet Valentine” by Motorhome on April 2. Two other cover songs to be released before the end of the year; one this coming August and one in October.
