Bay Area shoegaze/dreampop four-piece Seablite returned this year with a 4-song 10” EP titled High-Rise Mannequins which followed up their full-length debut Grass Stains and Novocaine last year.
Recorded by Alicia Vanden Heuvel (The Aislers Set, Poundsign more),in San Francisco, the recent EP captures the band at an exciting moment in time, as they take their place among the growing list of Bay Area indie fuzz-pop indie-notables.
Big Takeover is delighted to host the premiere of the video for the EP’s title track. The clip was filmed, directed, and edited by the band’s good friend, Max Holste. Shot over the span of a couple months, the video features live footage from Seablite’s Berkeley UC Theatre show (where they opened for Ladytron), as well as their show at Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco.
The performance footage is intercut with the ‘movements’ of a headphones-wearing store mannequin wandering around different parts of San Francisco.
It’s a bittersweet trip due to the current rapidly escalating viral crisis, and it actually kinda eerily highlights the San Francisco’s ghost town plight at the moment as the mannequin travels through the sparsely populated city and even meets up with a skeleton hanging out in an office…
The band divulges details about the video, revealing, “The idea of the video was to depict the contrast of life in San Francisco. We had to borrow the mannequin from a friend. Figuring out how to get him mobile was a fun challenge. We ended up strapping his stand to a furniture dolly then attached rope so we could pull him across streets.”
“Getting him to ride the escalator was the hardest part! The remainder of the footage was shot in our second home, our practice space. It feels weird to watch this now that the entire world is on pandemic lock-down and we’re not sure we can really even go to our practice space in the near future, but we hope it brings a smile to your face and a reminder that good times are still out there, somewhere in the future. Stay safe everyone!”
High-Rise Mannequins is available now on vinyl and digitally via Emotional Response and Meritorio Records (Spain).
