This is Kennedy’s first major video release since recording refugees in Mosul and Baghdad, Iraq, in 2019. And it couldn’t be more different. The live action/animation “Katamaran” video – which is premiering here for the first time – finds Kennedy as both marooned cosmic traveler on a black sand beach and every member of a very Beach Boys-esque band. It’s a loping Labor Day Weekend ballad that conjures up the end of the Summer, sunken maritime vessels, astral projection, castaway life and a ‘Kennedy’ embossed piece of driftwood that may or may not catapult him off a tropical isle.
The single/video comes after writing and producing the platinum hit “10,000 Emerald Pools” with Børns, where Kennedy found Jesus and now lives in isolation near Thomas Aquinas University in Southern California. He occasionally lobs musical softballs into the world and this video premiere softball was inspired from a trip to Haiti taken in 2013. A 12 inch LP on colored vinyl including this song and some golden hits like “Karate” and “Your Mama” are being released simultaneously.
