Following on the remarkable album NOMAD, which we premiered last October, Whiskerman return May 20 with Champions on Royal Oakie.
“Waking Up in Providence” finds the Bay Area-based band (Graham Patzner, singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist; Charles Lloyd; guitarist/sitarist; Will Lawrence, bass guitarist; Nick Cobbett, drummer) in fine form, setting Patzner’s forceful, plaintive vocal over a ’70s soul groove and sharp and dirty guitars. Think Mike Scott of The Waterboys fronting Stories doing “Brother Louie”, with Keith Richards guesting on rhythm guitar. Sweet! We can’t wait to hear more.
