This Frontier Needs Heroes is the nom de plume of troubadour nomad Brad Lauretti. Last month, he released his fourth album, Real Job. Overall, it’s a highly charged political album. But with the US election (finally!) in our rearview, let’s look back on one of the prettier, non-political songs from Real Job, “Don’t Let The Dreamers Die.”
We asked Lauretti about the making of the video and he replied, “We would go sailing every Thursday in the Long Island Sound and you could see Manhattan in the distance. I bought a cheaper fake version of a GoPro camera hoping that I could make a cool DIY video.”
Lauretti continues, “When I first moved to NYC I wanted to be a filmmaker, but I ended up doing music instead. One day me and my friends from High School all went out for a sail. It was the perfect day for swimming, and my friend who is a photographer was about to move to Africa with his girlfriend. So he jumped in the water with the camera and we sailed away, and that’s how we got all the footage from sea level. It was a perfect day between friends. We are all artists, all dreamers, and we somehow made it. That is the sentiment that I wanted to capture for “Don’t Let the Dreamers Die.” It is not always easy to follow your dreams, ‘cause life is hard and gets in the way sometimes, but those beautiful moments when you achieve something, that is what it is all about.”
