Libel is Gotham’s self-proclaimed “proudest purveyors of Protoglam, a delicate concoction of vintage Bowie, post-hardcore and a touch of shoegaze.” Well, alright!
The band, comprised of lead singer and guitarist, Gavin Dunaway, bassist Julie Rozansky, drummer Nick Brzoza, and guitarist keyboardist Justin Gonzales has just released its second album Comfort in the Noise, the follow-up to 2013 debut Music for Car Commercials.
“‘Word ain’t always as good as bond’ sums it up well,” said Dunaway of today’s premiere video and song. “‘Not Invited’ focuses on the prevalence of cronyism, how connections are more worthwhile than skill and talent (“Charm will only get you so far”), particularly in the arts. We may try to dismiss such claims by citing that “je ne sais quoi,” but the real question is, “Who do you know? / Who validates your ticket?”
Created by New York Times featured artist Michela Buttignol (who just so happens to be married to Dunaway), the video for “Not Invited” is a study in contrasts, tempering the tune’s dour message with brightly colored and playful visuals. We love it!
