Cult of Lip are a band with a sound that’s hard to put into a box. They’ve got obvious shoegaze influences, but lean more towards the early days of the genre. Sometimes thick, layered and pretty; other times abrasive, frenetic and pummeling, but always loud. Previously residing in Minneapolis, MN Cult of Lip were long time staples in the Twin Cities music community, releasing 3 EPs and frequently playing live. Founding members Ronnie Lee (guitar, vox) and Hannah Porter (Bass, vox) recently relocated to Madison WI, where they added Terran B (drums) and Emili Earhart (synth) to the live lineup and put the finishing touches on the band’s upcoming debut full-length, “Marsha”. The writing and recording process for Marsha started in Minneapolis nearly 3 years ago, just after 2 tours on opposite sides of the US, ending with them touring as the openers (and backing band) for psych legends The Telescopes.
“Surrender” is the first single from Marsha; it’s fast, encompassing, and best heard with the volume up! The accompanying video was shot on both Super 8 and Super 16mm film by Ronnie Lee (with additional shots from Miles McClain) at the Mobius Glen recording studio outside of Madison, which also serves as the band’s practice space. The video is meant to serve as a fly-on-the-wall style introduction to the band in their natural environment; turn it on, turn it (way) up, and enjoy. Marsha will be available on vinyl and digital via MPLS LTD in Summer/Fall 2023.
