Who is Viktor Longo? The man himself clues us in:
“My name is Viktor Longo and I was raised in Brooklyn where I currently reside. I’m a songwriter. I use a lot of different musical mediums to perform. I have performed at the Apollo, P.S 122 and the NYC AntiFolk Festival previously under the name VIKING. My new friend Nika DeCarlo recently described my voice as ‘silk burning over a crackling fire’.
“I spent a year in voluntary isolation leaving home in total secrecy and traveling America with only a guitar and a backpack honing my skills and meeting cool people, finally landing in Austin, TX, and living under assumed names. I earned enough money busking and stuff to buy a 1988 White Buick LeSabre Ltd. with big blue velvet seats, ones soft enough to sleep in when necessary. Back in Brooklyn the car was totaled and then stolen shortly thereafter.
“My one goal now is to make enough money writing and performing my songs to buy another car with big soft seats of blue velvet and perhaps a few more and a garage.”
Produced by top-rank NYC bassist and composer Josh Werner (Matisyahu, Bill Laswell, CocoRosie, Living Days), “TV On” grabbed us with its mix of Breakfast Club dance-pop and ’80s NYC street style (we detect an echo of poet/rocker Jim Carroll‘s vocal smirk). Grab a pint of ice cream, hit the couch and press play.
