Power pop is alive and thriving in Los Angeles thanks to a vibrant scene teeming with talented young bands like Uni Boys. Their third album for LA-based Curation Records is a self-titled collection that drills into the core of the quartet’s classic, catchy sound. Recorded by Paul D. Millar in Brooklyn, the debut single, “I Don’t Wanna Dream Anymore,” is a sugary jolt of heartbreak that’s sure to thrill genre fanatics and lovers of hooky, should be radio hits. The new album will be available March 27.

Uni Boys Q&A:
Noah Nash and Reza Matin

By S.W. Lauden

Why was “I Don’t Wanna Dream Any More” the right single to introduce the new Uni Boys album?

REZA MATIN: Out of all the songs “I Don’t Wanna Dream Anymore” is the one we’ve been playing live the longest, so it seemed like the best choice to introduce the album since it’s familiar to those who know us best. It was hard to choose though, I love all of Noah’s songs on this record and, for once, my own too.

What can tell me about how this one was written and recorded?

NOAH NASH: I wrote this one at the beach, which speaks to some of the lyrics. I really would rather be under a tree and by the sea than most of the places I am. It was written just after we had gotten home from a tour, which influenced the lyrics even more. Touring can hurt sometimes. It hurts me, at least. It will pick you up real high, but just as gravity tells us, what goes up must come down. Newton’s theory does apply to emotions right?

The rest speaks for itself. It’s all right there. I didn’t want to dream anymore. I was tired of being informed by my unconscious. In fact, these dreams cease to inform me of anything that I wasn’t already conscious of. My wittle heart was broken and I did not like being reminded of that in my sleep—the time one can only hope to escape from such unpleasant realities. Anyway… How was it written melodically? I’m not sure. I can say it was written quite fast.

REZA MATIN: Like the rest of the album the rhythm guitar, bass, and drums were recorded live at Daisy Chain Studios in NYC by our friend Paul Millar then the rest of the overdubs and vocals were done at Paul’s own studio, Bug Sound East, which is also in NYC. His space is next door to The Lemon Twigs studio, where we recorded our last record. Paul helped us get the sounds we wanted and we did the playing. We put our full trust in him and it was easy to do so since he’s a certified genius.

How do you think the new album fits in with the rest for the Uni Boys catalog?

REZA MATIN: I think it fits in quite well with our discography and is definitely a step up from anything we’ve done before. When I listen to it I don’t hear any filler tracks. This is the first record we’ve made that I truly feel proud of, but ask me tomorrow and you might get a different answer. Everyone who helped it come to life did a fantastic job. It was worth all the fun (and stress) in the world!

Will Uni Boys be hitting the road to support the new album?

REZA MATIN: We’ll be opening up for The Lemon Twigs January 14th at The Troubadour in West Hollywood. We’re also going on a couple tours with Daniel Romano Outfit in the US, Canada, and Europe. The US/Canada tour will be in April/May, and the Europe one will be later in 2026. We’d love to tour more of the US and are gonna book some mini headlining tours on the West Coast and East Coast to support the new album, so keep an eye out!
