You have got to lead by example. That’s the driving principle behind this latest single from Adam Ashten. At a point when he was thinking of giving up music for an easier life, he realized that having repeatedly taught his daughter the importance of perseverance and hard work as a means to achieving your goals, doing so would send the wrong message.
Instead, this moment of clarity resulted in him not walking away from the creative process but rather writing an anthem for it. Not only is the result, “Never Gonna Quit,” built on a solid sentiment and a brilliant piece of advice, but it is also a neat slice of indie-rock.
Taking a slow yet anthemic approach, it blends indie cool with rock energy, bluesy solos, and clever use of dynamics. It is one of those fist-in-the-air, end-of-set salutes to the rewards that come when you keep on keeping on.
But more than that, it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. In not giving up on his dreams, not opting for the easy option and walking away, Adam Ashten has created something a bit special, something that will hopefully inspire others, not just his daughter, and more importantly, has given him a song that not only can everyone relate too, but a song that I can imagine igniting and unifying the crowd as that last song of the night or the soundtrack to a great night out.
