Pop-punk with a 20’s edge? Yes, why not? And if, by the time the new millennium arrived, that genre was getting bogged down with copycat sounds and frat boy humor, Ary Maudit brings us a new version, one that fits with these more enlightened times and its more discerning tastes.
With a solid reputation built up in the world of production, live sound and engineering for the likes of Yungblood and FKA twigs and having been recognized as one of IQ Magazine’s “20 worldwide pioneers reshaping the live business,” “No Intention” is a song built on the shoulders of giants, and in this case those shoulders very much include Ary Maudit’s own!
The traditions of pop-punk are all there in the song, bouncy grooves, heavy yet infectious riffs, raw energy, pace and power, but there is something else there too, something those originals didn’t have…forward-thinking. If the genre seemed to have arrived already boxed into a corner by its own attitudes, already contemplating a short existence, at least in its original form… just like punk before it, “No Intention” feels different, that this time, a long and exciting trajectory lies ahead, thanks to artists like Ari Maudit. There is still the sound of revolution, but there is a feeling of evolution too!
Not bad for a debut single if you ask me.
