Asthma Kids - Crumbs and Morsels (The Meek Are Getting Ready Pt IV) (2 Bar Town Records)

17 December 2025

Mathew 5.5 tells us that “The Meek Shall Inherit The Earth.” Well, here they come, a mere 2000 years after those words were supposedly uttered, Asthma Kids are storming the barricades.

Okay, that’s a bit unfair, but the lavishly titled “Crumbs and Morsels (The Meek Are Getting Ready Pt IV)” is undoubtedly the soundtrack to unrest, to the underdogs getting organised, to rousing the rabble and making, not just a move, but advocating a movement.

Their thorny message is delivered by a spiky, energetic sonic delivery system, a blend of incendiary guitars driven on by disco beats, alt-rock power, and indie poise. It is short, sharp and shockingly precise, a fist-in-the-air, over-the-top-we-go, headlong charge into the heart of the status quo, a demand for change, a veritable sonic uprising captured in two minutes of raw and rebellious music. And, as the video makes clear, as long as the powers-that-be can keep us under the table, divided and happy with our few crumbs and morsels, then we will never be united enough to become a real threat to the elites and the moneyed.

Music has always been a powerful force for protest, from the medieval troubadours to the Napoleonic military marching songs to punk itself. But since then, creatives seem to have forgotten that they even have such a voice, and the music makers of the world, for whatever reason, seemed happy with their lot, rhyming moon with June and writing about, well, nothing much at all.

A lot seems to have changed in the last year. Voices in the wilderness are becoming collective choruses, music seems to be driving the momentum of protest once again, and songs like this, and bands like Asthma Kids, are coming together to lift the sound of the streets, the chant of the underdog into powerful and poignant weapons.

After all, as the saying goes, chants would be a fine thing!
