Rock music might have made its name on simple chord progressions and immediate, obvious and infectious grooves, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t evolved over the decades, often branching into, among many other styles, more elegant and sonically eloquent forms.
Bruno Santos is an excellent example of just how elegant and sonically eloquent those forms can be. As a taste of his latest release Reversed Symmetry, an album a decade in the making, he gives us a fantastic preview of what to expect.
And based on “{ Persistent } Loop”, it sounds like every fan of articulate and sonically rich rock music’s dream. Intricate and ambient sonic soundscaping gives way to big riffs before things settle down. Santo’s vocals match the music, poised and powerful deliveries as he builds impressive musical textures – intricate and ornate weaves of six-string succulence, dynamic beats, and a brilliant marriage of groove and grit, and grace and grandeur.
Sitting somewhere between the world of alt-rock and more progressive climes, he manages to balance the big and the clever, crafting a song that is energetic and exciting yet also full of moments of delicacy and deftness.
If the job of a single is to build intrigue, excitement, and anticipation for the album that it calls home, then I would suggest that “{ Persistent } Loop” has done its job to perfection!
