It is fair to say that Electric High has been building up to this moment. They have, via 17 singles and 3 EP releases, been testing the water and teasing the audience with their cool brand of rock and roll for a while now. And now, their first full-length album is upon us – and what a great sonic experience it is. A must for rock fans everywhere.
But even in the case of Colorful White Lies, they have taken their time. The songs found here are the product of several recording sessions over the last four years, and taking time to get things right shows. The fact that the band has taken its time to do things properly, never rushed the process and that the songs have evolved over time with the band has made for a great record.
From “Sun’s” blend of classic rock moves and incendiary rock and roll grooves to the swaggering stomp of “Seven Wonders” and from the Zeppelin-esque dynamics of “Weeping Gods” to the bluesy snarl of the album’s swansong, “Siren’s Lullaby,” this is an album that packs a punch.
Fans of classic rock will recognize everything that they love, and those more drawn to alternative rock will find a band moving with the times on this album; if you are a fan of both intricate and anthemic rock, then it’s all here, and if you want music full of hooks and riffs, drive and sonic weight yet which still delivers songs that are accessible and infectious, then this is the album for you. In fact, I can’t imagine anyone with a taste for rock music, in whichever form, who isn’t going to dig Colorful White Lies.
This is an album that was well worth waiting for. And that is an understatement.
