Timed to be a soundtrack to Pride Month, “Just Might” is a personal celebration of self-discovery, but it also carries a relatable, universal theme. It reminds us that whoever, whatever, however, and whyever you are, you should revel in your own uniqueness; in fact, you MUST! It reminds us that we can only live our lives according to our own rules and make our own choices, and should never be ruled by others. It is the only way to be truly happy.
This third release from e.lissa faden’s debut EP sees her blending the lighter sensibilities of 90’s trip-hop, with danceable beats, spacious grooves, and, as it heads to the finish line, just the right amount of grunge intensity to go out with a bang.
So, if you are one of those people who like their music tagged and compartmentalized into genres and labels, you are out of luck here. But why do we need music that sounds like something we have heard before when you can have… well, music like this? Sure, if you dismantle the music, if that is your bag, you can point at the various musical elements that form its sonic engine room, but that would be like standing before the most sublime sonic architecture and just counting the bricks.
“Just Might” is not only a song that feels like a personal celebration, but a healthy reminder to anyone and everyone that life is short, we only get one go at this, so you might as well be honest about who you are and who you want to be. If people have a problem with that, it is their problem!
