There was a time when rock music was made exclusively out of analog instruments, and electronic music was the bastion of the dance world. Rock had guitars, dance music keyboards and never the twain shall meet. That time is long gone (thankfully) – now digital sounds can be turned into music as big, dynamic, and world-shaking as rock music. How do I know? I just listened to the new one from eRapWMDX.
If you are one of those people who need to put labels on things, then I guess electronic rock music would do as a tag, but that doesn’t really seem to do the song justice. This is not about electronic music trying to emulate the rock sound; this is the sound of the two worlds colliding, creating together, merging, mixing, matching, and melding into a new hybrid sonic chimera—a creature in its own right yet made up of various disparate parts.
“The Algorythm” might begin in more familiar dance territory, but as it pours on sonic weight, adds digital tones and robotic textures, and builds pulsing sonic architecture, seductive beats, and infectious grooves like little you have heard before, you realize that we have reached a point where both the rock and the dance worlds have found a way of coming together in perfect harmony. Everyone will remember where they were when they first heard this track.
