FACHY - I Can't Lie (self-released)

I know this might sound like an obvious thing to say, but FACHY can play guitar. I mean, he can really play. And while that might seem to be given for any singer-songwriter worth their salt, you would be surprised at how many would-be troubadours think it is okay to just slash away in A minor, giving use the collected wisdom of their gap year insights. Or, maybe you wouldn’t. Anyway, the point is that Vancouver based FACHY is not one of those. Not by a long shot.

Taking the mantle of singer-songwriter is a trickier business than it might first seem. A voice, a guitar, and a tale to tell might be the few requirements, but so much music has already been made in such a vein that you also need something new, something that makes you stand apart from the pack.

“I Can’t Lie” is the sound of FACHY doing just that. His picked melodies are intricate and beguiling, his voice floating and gentle, his tale relatable and timeless. He might not be radically changing the form, but he is doing it better than most and that is what get’s you noticed. It’s a love song for the modern age, but one that comes from a place of maturity rather than the usual throwaway, adolescent pop pap.

FACHY has a skill for blending folk dexterity into indie-pop via shimmering guitar work and accessible, infectious tunes. In a world of one-dimensional, style-over-substance troubadours who think that wearing wide-brimmed hats and skinny jeans will win people over, FACHY is the real deal. He has style AND substance!
