JBNG - Live at the Biltmore (Self-Released)

23 April 2025

JBNG’s Live at the Biltmore is a raw, unapologetic testament to the band’s commitment to both musical evolution and emotional honesty. This unplugged live recording, captured in Vancouver, offers a fresh take on the grunge-infused sound the group has quickly come to define. Led by Jaben John Groome, JBNG crafts an intimate experience that not only channels the angst of 90s icons like Nirvana and Alice in Chains as well as the whole MTV Unplugged ethos, but also taps into deeply personal territory of Groome’s own mental health struggles.

Above all, what stands out in this performance is the band’s vulnerability and their willingness to wear their hearts on their sleeves. The stripped-down setting amplifies Groome’s heavy, raspy vocals, which convey the weight of his experiences while maintaining a gritty, yet comforting quality. JBNG doesn’t just pay homage to its grunge roots, however, it transforms them, mixing in indie rock, punk, and even shades of post-punk, making the music feel both nostalgic and thoroughly contemporary. By stripping back these songs to their core, it also shows the band’s true talent and the power of their songwriting.

Live at the Biltmore isn’t just an artefact of a live performance; it’s a cathartic release, both for the band and their audience, offering a profound connection for those who need it most.
