Not many bands stay in the game long enough to celebrate their 40th anniversary, and most lose much of their sonic bite by the time they do. But KMFDM are as sharp, shockingly good, and sonically visceral today as they were when they first stepped foot on stage all those years ago.
How do I know? Because I have just given their latest single, “Let Go,” a first taste and title track of an album to follow a spin. They still have what they term the Ultra Heavy Beat and have it in no small amount, a sound that bridges sonic worlds, part rock, part dance, part techno, part funk, and all euphoric energy.
Forty years in the game, with their 23rd album is about to drop and still fuelled with a fire and passion that allows them to carpet bomb the audience with incendiary tracks such as “Let Go.” It’s a shame that all bands don’t age this disgracefully! And I mean that in the most positive and loving sense.
