Louise Aubrie, an indie pop musician from New York and London with a carefully cultivated sound of her own has just released her highly anticipated third album, Late 44, recorded at Abbey Road and Knight Time Studios. A follow up to 2013’s Time Honoured Alibi, Late 44 is more of the same great power pop she’s become known for. Morrissey’s guitarist Boz Boorer is again on the album, and it’s no wonder there’s a certain Your Arsenal influence pervading the full length. There’s also a tough, serrated edge to Aubrie’s sound, like Blondie’s early punk records, evident on songs like “Tearjerker” and the ripper “Too Late.”
The melodies on Late 44 are as strong and as larger-than-life as the guitars, and it begins right from the off with the opener “Masterstroke,” and continues right on through to the end with “Please Don’t Touch.” The album is so full of potential indie hits, it’s amazing that songs as great as the aforementioned “Please Don’t Touch” and the fantastic groove of “Next to Nothing” are left buried towards the second half. Intelligent and uncontrollably catchy, Late 44 is yet another fantastic offering from Louise Aubrie and just might be her strongest release yet.
