A change is as good as a rest, they say. But even better is a change and a rest, especially when such simple solutions, such space to see things differently, can save things that are important to you. And so it is with Matt Saxton’s latest single and a tale of how taking such a break, such a change of surroundings, and making space can remind you why you fell in love with someone in the first place.
It’s a simple song, a suitably understated, piano-led ballad, one that, without more ornate music getting in the way, the lyrics, the story, and the sentiment remain the main thrust of the song.
“Feel It Again” is an exercise in musical economy. A beat, a piano backdrop, and just a few additional sonic touches, and you have it all. And as I say, the tale being told is what matters here. It is a chance to see someone the way you used to see them, an opportunity to rekindle that light that has for a long time felt as if it was burning low, to briefly see a vision of the past and remember the things that really matter.
It is gorgeously unresolved, too, with no answers, just a chance to recapture the magic and see where it takes you next. And who can ask for more than that?
