Anyone who can call on the likes of Alabama Shakes’ Ben Tanner as well as Nashville rockers The Prescriptions to help with the sonic duties when recording their latest single is undoubtedly someone who moves in all the right circles. Miller Tracy is just such a person, and those aforementioned are indeed found helping create the fantastic sound of “Love Is Adamant.”
Drawing lines between the heavy emotions of formative blues music and the scuzzy growl of ’60s garage rock, the foot-on-the-monitor energy of classic rock, and its distorted, alternative underworld. And the results are fantastic – dark and delicious, driving and delirious, everything that the modern rock arena is missing: music with balls and integrity, not just volume and velocity, or worse, pout and pose, just for the sake of it.
If the previous single “Creature Comforts” was a crawling, marvelously meandering roots-rock groover, this time out, Miller Tracy forgoes restraint and understatement and hits us in the face with raw, riotous, and revelatory rock and roll, just as the gods of garage rock intended—a brilliant blast of bombast, a sonic primal scream.
Forget all the modern, by-the-numbers, sanitized, and safe, comfort zoning and conformist music that masquerades as rock; this is the sound of the spirit of rock and roll being ritually exhumed and awakened from its ancient slumber to infuse, infect, and inspire the genre just in the nick of time.
If only more so-called rockers made music this great, this incendiary, this energized!
