Can you find a single word to describe Nick Stone’s music? Bucolic. That word pretty much sums things up, especially when discussing his new single, “These Streets”. I suppose I could leave it at that and let you, dear reader, get on with your day. But that wouldn’t be much of a review, would it? And this track—this sweet gem of a song—deserves a little more love than such a brief mention.
There’s a gentle pulse running through “These Streets”. It’s subtle, almost delicate, the way the beat plays off those chiming and indeed charming guitar lines. The sound shimmers around the edges, and Stone’s vocals feel as if they are floating somewhere out of reach. But also found within its gentle, hypnotic, and calming tones is a sense of celebration, familiarity, and being back in the fold—certainly, something driven home by the quick-spin-around-the-block travelogue video.
Indie-folk? Maybe. A hint of country swagger? Sure. A bit of rock heat simmering just under the surface? Why not? I don’t care much for labels, especially since artists, more so now than ever, are free to dip into any genre, sound, style, or era for inspiration and create truly cross-genre sounds, as this is. But if indie-folk means blending the old-school with modern hooks and melodies, bringing tradition into the present without losing the vibe—then yes, “These Streets” certainly wears such a sonic hat.
