Post Death Soundtrack - Barren Mother of All (Self-Released)

5 June 2026

Post Death Soundtrack’s Barren Mother of All arrives with a daunting scale and even heavier subject matter. The latest chapter in Stephen Moore’s trilogy of sprawling double albums pushes further into the psychological and philosophical terrain that has defined the project in recent years, but with a sharper sense of urgency and confrontation. Across more than thirty tracks, Moore assembles a restless collage of industrial grit, gothic rock atmosphere, post-punk tension, noise experimentation, and metal aggression. Rather than settling into a single identity, the album thrives on instability. Songs appear to emerge from different corners of Moore’s creative world, united less by genre than by a shared sense of unease. The result can feel overwhelming at times, though that appears entirely intentional.

Lyrically, Barren Mother of All is preoccupied with collapse—personal, societal, and spiritual. Moore wrestles with despair, disillusionment, and transformation, framing them not as isolated experiences but as interconnected states. The album’s title, inspired by a concept from spiritual teacher Nisargadatta Maharaj, hints at the existential questions running beneath the surface. Even the collection of cover songs feels chosen to reinforce the album’s themes rather than provide moments of relief, including a brilliant reinvention of Beastie Boys’ “Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun.” In the best way possible, Barren Mother of All is abrasive, unpredictable, and resoundingly compelling. It is not an easy listen, nor does it aspire to be. Instead, it stands as an ambitious document of an artist confronting chaos head-on and refusing to look away.
