Capturing a suitably cosmic and wonderfully ambient vibe, “Space Time Traveller” is a delicate piece of music woven from gentle piano ebbs and flows an understated beat, and an array of drifting sonics that shoots through the song like the celestial bodies that the music conjures.
Via a neat spoken-word breakdown, the song then achieves escape velocity and heads into more psychedelic rock realms, but even then, it is content to base itself in the more sedate and ambient end of the spectrum.
As debut singles go, it is both gorgeous and a brilliant announcement of the band’s arrival. Not for Resident Bohemian the usual obvious explosive entrance that many bands see as the way to get noticed, but with something so seductive and thoughtful, it turns heads for its delicacy and deftness, not to mention the contemplations of our place in the vastness of the universe that the lyrics juggle.
At six minutes long, Resident Bohemian take their time making their point, but, if you are anything like me, you will put this on repeat and just have it playing away in the background for most of the day. It just seems such a crime to stop playing it.
