When an artist can boast Randy McStine on vocals and Mark Plati on production duties, then you really have to take notice of what they are doing…you’d be a fool not to. They say that you can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep, and so considering that Randy is known for his work with Porcupine Tree and Mark for working with…..well, everyone and anyone who matters, Rooftop Screamers is undoubtedly a project that chooses its friends well.
“My Sanity” is one of those incredible songs that sit in the gaps between genres, energetic but not quite full-on rock, running on indie grooves but not beholden to the fad and fashion of that realm and embued with an almost pop infectiousness, too. Its blend of analog traditions and forward-thinking, digital deftness also underlines the juxtapositions and meeting of musical minds that are taking place here.
Its lyrical themes are both timeless and timely, discussing the empowerment that comes from reclaiming your identity from the dangers of it being subsumed by a toxic relationship, something that seems to be increasingly more poignant and prominent in the modern internet and social media age.
“My Sanity” is a song with mass appeal; rockers and pop-pickers, indie kids, and even the dance set will find much to love about it, and anyone with discerning musical tastes will be all over this like a rash.
