Sirenglas - Glass Between Us (Alfred Hermida)

19 April 2025

If the previous single, “Dance With Me (In Oblivion),” created its vibe through a mid-paced, tribal groove, using occasional space and understatement to create a wonderful dynamic, the new one takes a more direct approach. Kicking off with a guitar that goes straight for the jugular, it aims to grab the listener immediately, before they even have the chance to consider any other option, and it does so perfectly.

Still working in the echo of the post-punk sound, the pace, and razor-sharp edge to the sonics enables Sirenglas to take a step closer to a more alt-rock sound and slightly away from the previous brooding gothic vibe. Not that there is anything wrong with either approach, but the fire with which they fuel this latest single, “Glass Between Us” not to mention those gorgeous vocals, reminds me of an old favorite of mine, Skeletal Family, a band similarly with a foot in each camp.

Dance, darkwave, goth, rock…it’s all in there: a heady mix of brooding sonic intellect, rock and roll abandon, easy danceability, and alternative vibes. So, whether you are a rope-dancing, black-clad denizen of the night or a blistering foot-on-the-monitor rock and roll fan, this one is for you! Music made between rock and a dark place! Marvelous!
