What better way to announce a full-on UK & Ireland tour than to drop, not only a kick ass new single, but to drop one that feels like the soundtrack to a stroll down London’s Carnaby Street as the city starts to swing in time to the sixties groove. It’s the sound of modern Minnesota echoing with the sonic spice of the British Summer of Love. It’s a form of time travel!
It would be easy to plunder the past or merely pastiche to create such a sound, but The Scarlet Goodbye understands that there is a fine line between the art of tribute and celebration, and a half-baked Austin Powers-esque parody. It is a fine line they know how to traverse with sure-footed precision, and the result is the perfect balance of reverence and reverberation.
Built on the hookiest of hooks and those gorgeous harmonies that defined that era, searing guitar grooves, and even a few nods to movers and shakers such as The Zombies and The Kinks, it is a psychedelic-tinged slice of nostalgic pop, but a slice of the past that feels unusually refreshing and wonderfully welcome in the current age. Music is cyclical after all!
With a new album in the works and the tour starting in a matter of weeks, “She’s a Fire” feels like a starter pistol heralding 2026 getting underway for Daniel Murphy and Jeff Arundel, and doing so at great speed.
