Tim d'Aboville - Reflets (self-released)

24 January 2026

If the compound genre-tag of folk-pop suggests a blend of the singer-songwriter finesse of the former with the accessibility and ease of the latter, then Tim d’Aboville’s latest ep, Reflets, is the epitome of such a concept.

The opener, “Next To You,” is a brilliant balance of the two, a song running on a Sheeran-esque sense of simplicity and contagion wrapped in a more emotionally soaked sentiment, of effortless groove and meaningful, poetic lyricism.

But, having given us, what is obviously the sort of song which, with the proper backing and a fair wind, would hit the charts with speed and effortlessness, “Donne Moi Ta Main” sees him return to his native French for something that feelsakin to the passing of the baton from the likes of Charles Aznavour, and Édith Piaf, the song perfect blend of tradition and modernity, deftness and delicacy.

“Song For Sam” is a brilliant tribute to a friend no longer in his life, moving from the spacious and emotive to a more driven, more ornate and energetic sound as it goes, “Chacun de Notre Cote” is a gorgeous piano ballad and by the time we arrive at “Thinking About You’s” blend of beauty and beat, emotion and honest expression, you realise that you have just been treated to a very special collection of songs.

Too much modern music is brash and bombastic, happy to sucker punch the listener into submission. If, like me, you have grown weary of such obvious moves and weary grooves, then Tim d’Aboville has everything you need, right here.
