Tiny Magnetic Pets ease into Astralux with “Lost My Guiding Light (Again),” beginning in slow pads and open space before a kick drum gives the track a trance pulse. Arpeggiated synths and bright digital chords start filling the gaps, turning something initially suspended into a much more physical piece of electronic pop.
Sean Quinn’s guitar arrives with darker, ringing chords that sit beautifully against the synths. Paula Gilmer begins almost weightlessly, but her vocal grows steadily more forceful as the arrangement thickens. Male backing vocals appear behind her, adding another layer without crowding the song, and by the final stretch everything feels much larger than the quiet opening suggested.
The new version grew out of the way Tiny Magnetic Pets had begun performing the song live. Originally released on Deluxe/Debris, it was rearranged for a Dublin dance festival and eventually became the band’s live opener. That history is audible in the 2026 recording. It feels built to keep expanding in a room.
“Low Places (Dakeyne Remix)” starts much further inside the night. Paul Dakeyne gives it a loose funk and disco pull, looping chopped pieces of Gilmer’s airy vocal through a groove that feels instantly familiar without sounding dated. Her voice moves between melody and texture, slipping in and out of the beat while bass and synths keep the whole track rolling.
The rhythm carries the polish and looseness of 90s dance music, while the vocal loops keep flashing through it with their own personality.
The “Dakeyne Acid Dub” feels like the same club with the intensity turned up. The bass hits harder, the beat pushes faster, and different pieces of Gilmer’s vocal are cut into shorter fragments until they begin acting like percussion. One repeated phrase almost seems to become “disco, disco” or “let’s go” inside the mix, less because of the literal words than because of the way Dakeyne reshapes the voice.
The Acid Dub barely lets the momentum settle. Bass, vocal fragments, and electronic details keep flashing past each other with the feeling of driving far too fast down an empty highway. Where the first remix grooves, this one accelerates.
That progression gives the three track EP its shape. “Lost My Guiding Light (Again)” moves from atmosphere into trance, the first “Low Places” remix settles into funkier club territory, and the Acid Dub pushes the same world into something heavier and faster. Across all three, Tiny Magnetic Pets tap into the energy of 90s electronica, EDM, and nu disco without losing the airy vocals and melodic instinct that hold the release together.
Astralux was produced by Tiny Magnetic Pets and recorded between The Yellow Room in Dublin and Immerhythm in London. “Lost My Guiding Light (Again)” was mixed and mastered by Tim Dorney of Republica. Dakeyne created both “Low Places” remixes, which were mastered by Conan Liquid at The Crates Motel.
The EP also points toward Tiny Magnetic Pets’ forthcoming fourth album, A Black Frame, produced by Gareth Jones.
