Follow The Big Takeover
The first half is raucous and raging indie/punk rock, and the flip side is compelling and captivating darkwave and shoegaze, with a dash of experimental music at the very end (courtesy of Katiejane Garside of course).
1. Neighborhood Brats – “Harvey Weinstein (Is A Symptom)”
Dirt Cult Records is kickin’ it up again with the new album Confines of Life that just came out about a week ago by this Californian punk rock band.
2. Destroy Boys – “Muzzle”
This ripping one-off single comes courtesy of this San Fran alt-/punk rock band signed to Hopeless Records.
MY PROTEST INTERVIEW
3. The Linda Lindas – “Racist, Sexist Boy” (Live at LA Public Library)
Love ‘em, or not, this rudimentary Riot Grrrl-styled outfit is blowing up on social media – and their message here is relevant.
4. Drinking Boys and Girls Choir – “ODOBY”
The frantic and fun act will be releasing new album Marriage License on Jul 21st via Damnably and Electric Muse.
5. The Raging Nathans – “Waste My Heart”
The veteran punk band unleash their raucous and relevant title track off their upcoming album, out this Friday, June 4th via Rad Girlfriend.
MY SONG PREMIERE of “I Could Never Fall In Love With You”.
6. New Canyons – “Post Nothing”
Wow, okay, this is my new favorite post-punk/darkwave-type band!! I’m not sure how I stumbled upon them (possibly during a browsing of SoundCloud). Anyway, this stuff is compelling to the max IMO – vocals/emotions, sonics, atmosphere, lyrics…
Their new album Heavy Water came out about a month ago on Feeltrip. A must-listen.
7. Hongza – “Dream Sleep Eat”
This indie pop/rock artist recently released his topical and melodic Generation Z EP via Killing Moon, and this number is an engaging and anthemic burst of energy; he’s kinda like a male Beabadoobee on this track.
8. Jeweler – “Savior Complex”
Shoegaze/post-rock hybrid-styled music with passionate vocals and hazy to sharp sonics. New album Tiny Circles arrives June 11th.
9. Tape Waves – “Tired”
Beautifully gauzy, yet uptempo indie/dreampop with gently murmured vocals and crisp drum beat. New album Bright materializes this Friday, June 4th via Emotional Response.
10. Kittens In The Bin – “Yellow Snake”
This one-off freaky-deak is from the one ‘n’ only Katiejane Garside, her musician sister Melanie Garside (Maple Bee), and their nephew. This noise/experimental opus comes from a 19-track compilation album VIRGŌ which arrived mid-May via Parkingstone.
